Winnemucca Lake, Mokelumne Wilderness

Winnemucca Lake was a quick 3.5 miles loop hike, just the fix that we needed to get our dose of fresh air and have quality family time with our 5 and 9 year-old!

But if you're looking for a longer hike in the same area, you can take the Round Top or the Carson Pass trail, which would bring you to 10,831 feet, a 2,300 feet elevation gain.

Located in the Eldorado National Forest, in Markleeville, the trail head for Winnemucca is located just a shy 15 minutes (7 miles) passed Kirkwood Mountain Resort* The hike starts in the woods, but it doesn't take long to be walking in an open fields and have 360 degrees magnificent views. We started our hike wearing a sweater only, but we were glad to have our windbreaker...As we got closer to the lake, higher in elevation, the temperature went down drastically. The wind picked up some speed as well. It was probably in the low 40's F but it felt colder. And our boys were looking for mittens and hats!
